The Dreams of Others
This series is a collaboration, a dialogue about dreams between the dreamer and myself.
Initially a proposal was sent to family and friends, requesting a memorable dream.
I asked for a description, in writing, drawing(s), or both, of a dream that has stayed with them. It could be one from childhood, but the more visual the dream, the better. After that, I painted the dream as I visualized it based on their description. Next I emailed a photograph of the image back to the dreamer. They would share their reaction to it, after which I might try another version. The process continues until one or both of us had enough!
I am attempting a dialogue about the dream between the dreamer and I, taking something utterly subjective to yet another level of subjectivity and seeing what happens. Maybe it will turn out like a variation on someone else’s composition or a completely different song.
